How do I remove the pattern string error in the search box?

My search box was working fine. I was able to go through all my records quite
easily using the search box at the bottom of my forms and tables. Now I
can't type more than one letter, it doesn't work either may I add, before I
get this error " The Pattern String is Invalid". How can I remove this
error? I don't know how it all of a sudden happened, but I don't know which
"string" to alter to make the search work. Can you help me please?
