How do I report total monthly resource hours by project?

I need to know how many hours were charged to a particular project for a
particular month and I'm trying to use the Resource Usage (work) custom
report.

There is a discrepancy between total hours for a month in the "View Resource
Assignments" summary view in WebAccess and the Resource Usage (work) report
in custom reports. Not all hours are reported in the Resource Usage report
that are listed on the view. The view is correct.

If you open the project and click Collaborate - Publish - All Information,
do you still see the same discrepancy between the Resource Usage view and
the View Resource Assignments view? The difference you see usually occurs
when the PM does not publish the schedule changes after updating actuals
into the project. Let us know.

Thanks for the reply, Dale. We published all information and still had the
discrepancy. However, after more research, we found that some tasks in the
"View Resource Assignments" view in WebAccess were no longer on the project
plan in MS Project. Apparently, some tasks have been deleted from the
project plan but are still in the assignments table. Do you know of a way to
reclaim these "orphaned" tasks to the plan? Also, do you know if there is a
way to prevent tasks from being deleted from a plan after time has been
charged?

Several members of the group have posted a SQL Server script to remove
deleted tasks from each user's timesheet. I will ask one of them to repost
their SQL Server script to assist you.

I do not know of any way to reclaim deleted tasks to a project plan. I
believe that this situation shows that your company is not following a
standard methodology for handling cancelled tasks. The fact that your
project managers have deleted tasks with actuals concerns me. A better
approach to handling a cancelled task is to set the Remaining Work on the
task to 0 hours and to republish the project and assignments. The exact
method you would use for this is entirely up to you, but I would strongly
encourage you to establish a company policy for handling cancelled tasks,
and then to expect all PM's to conform to this policy. Hope this helps.
