How do I reset the last cell?

I have an Excel file that has become extremely large
probably from periodically importing and deleting data.
After reading some of the comments in this newsgroup, I
find that the "last cell" is set way beyond my current
data. (I figured this out by doing a Ctrl- End). How do
I reset the "last cell" so I can reduce the file size.

What are some other obvious things I should look for?
