How do I restore my contact list to Outlook? Office 2003 Professional Edition

I exported and compacted my contact list ffrom Outlook to a DVD.
Recently my hard drive had to be replaced. My O/S is Microsoft Windows
XP Home Edition. I reloaded Office 2003 Professional Edition and I
uploaded my archived list to my desktop from the DVD but I can't find a
way (program) to open it much less restore my contacts to Office 2003
Professional Edition. The (error) message reads: "Office Archive Data
file .pst" and the web refers me to the Office help website but I find
the help topic. I also stored a contact list on Microsoft Excel, which
I can access with Excel; can I convert it to Office Outlook

Is that the exact error message, can you go into the properties of that file
and deselect the Read Only box if checked. You should be able to open the
file from the File || Open || Outlook Data file command in Outlook. You can
import the Excel spreadsheet into Outlook contacts from the File ||
Import/Export command in Outlook.
