How do I retain change bars?

For all revised documents, my customer wants to see change bars on the right
hand side of the page for each change. I know how to do that, and in my
previous version of Word, I was able to turn off all the strikethroughs, etc.
on my application so that ONLY the change bars are present.

Now, using Word 2002, SP-2, if I turn off the insertions/deletions, the
change bars also go away. Or, if I accept the changes, then the change bars
also go away.

What should I do?
