How do I save a project to later further edit it??

I'm a newbie, and I would like to know how to save and open a FrontPage web page so that I can edit it at a later time.

I have tried it before but it didn't work.

I'm using FrontPage 2002

What happens when you choose Save from the File menu?

To begin with you must create a new web. FP will prompt you for a name of the web. Once FP does this, it will usually create the first page (index.htm). Modify the page and the web to your hearts desire, then save the page. You can safely exit the program. Later, to work on your site, go to File/Open Site, or recent webs. Once the web is open, you can modify and add more pages. FP will prompt you to save when exiting. The main thing here is to always open a web when modifying. Don't just merely open a page. FP doesn't like that.

I've often wondered why this occurs a lot with new users. Are the help files and wizards lacking in substance? Or are they just jumping into the pool without checking if there's water in it?

First you create a web, then you create or import the content into this current open FP web, then as
you create each page, you click File Menu | Save. Then you can exit out of FP, next day just open
the web.

click file > save or the "save" icon on the tool bar - just like any other
windows application.

1) are you editing and creating the site first a) New > Web and b) "live" on the
server connected through FP or are you editing the site locally on your machine
(unless your machine is the server).

You must Open > Web and not just a page; as the page is associated with a web
with 'web' being a folder on your hard disk (or the server) with frontpage's
added hidden folders it needs for its functionality. the ones such as those
commencing "_vti", fpdb (where databases are stored), _private (for private
information/secure pages etc), etc

Anyway, back to the question. You just save like you would a Word document,
close down the application, then next time, start frontpage, File > Open > Web,
choose the web you want to open then file > open and choose the page within the
web.

A new user's first objective us usually to create a Web page. The
thought of first creating a space that contains all their Web pages
doesn't occur to them.
