How do I save a Word or Excel document to a web site?

We are a small business splitting our office into 2 separate locations about
70 miles apart. In order for everyone to have access to some common files I
have thought that the best was would be to save them to a Web Site so that
they can be accessed 24/7.

Can anyone suggest to a layman the easiet way to do this. I would much
refer it if we could just use the "Save As" command directly to the Web Site
rather saving locally and then Uploading.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Chizzy.

Are the two locations going to be networked together? If they are, the
easiest way to do what you want to do is to move the common files to a shared
network folder. It's very easy to do if you're runnin Windows XP on both
machines.
If the computers aren't networked, both Word and Excel allow files to be
published to a Web Site. Just click file, save as a web page and follow the
instructions. You can also go into Help and search for "saving a document as
a web page". I've never used, but it seems to be what you're looking for.

I may not have explained myself too well. I was trying to keep it short.

I have managed to save some sample docs to MSN although this only allows
30MB of storage space, but this made me think that it must be possible to
save some documents onto a Web Site somewhere. We have a Web Site currently
which is written in Flash, and I am not entirely certain that this is
suitable, therefore it may be that we need to create a seperate secure web
site simply for saving the documents to. That is not an issue for me if I
have to do this.

I am unable to "Save as a Web Page" to our current Web Site, for no doubt
valid technical reasons, but what they are I do not know. I suppose my
question is "what do I need to do to enable us to save Word & Excel documents
to a Web Site". Is there some software/hardware/programming that's needed?

As a bit of background information we were considering a VPN (virtual
personal network) but have ruled that out on the basis that wherever we
locate the server that it needs to run on, that office location will on rare
occasions be un-attended (vacations etc.) and if there is a problem with the
server whilst the office is empty then the other office won't be able to
access those documents. Since we need to ensure that everyone in the
business is working off the same, up-to-date documents as well as having
access to each workers Customer Quotations when they are away, it is no good
having them stored "locally".

There is a simple solution to this I am sure - being igorant makes me
useless at coming up with the solution, and this makes me prey to the
vultures who will try to rip me off and still not give me what I wanted?

Hi Chizzy,

For Microsoft Word or Excel to save directly to a web site the web site host needs to have FrontPage Server Extension support
installed if it's not a Microsoft Office Sharepoint site.
