How do I save e-mails to CD without opening them?

1

1122 Lady

My e-mail storage is nearly full. Is there a way to check off all the
e-mails at one time and save the messages to a CD without having to open each
one to save it ?

Why do you think its full?
What email application are you using?
and the version if Outlook?

Select the emails to be saved from Outlook and then drag to your desktop or
a designated folder. Burn the .msg files to your CD.

Got message from MSN 87% full.
Hotmail. ( Several months ago before account got so full my MSN e-mail in
box and folders started showing up empty. MSN found e-mail - "Saved it" -
Lost Forever. Now can only access through Hotmail).
I go in through Internet Explorer. Where would Outlook come into play?

Since you posted in an Office newsgroup, the assumption was made that you
were using outlook, which is a part of office.

MSN mail is not part of office and this would not be the place to ask.

I also use a Hotmail account with only web access. Can't think of anyway to
do it.

Thank you. I apologize - I am using Hotmail to retrieve my e-mails. Message
from MSN states e-mail 87% full (mostly in folders). Have unresolved problem
directly accessing my e-mail account through my MSN account. Only way to get
my @msn.com e-mail is through Hotmail.

I had previously tried what you are suggesting. When the screen says I have
items waiting to be burned to CD I get two types of icons, a folder and an
"e" in a blue box. When folder is opened tons of icons come out for each
item on screen I was copying and I don't think the text is even in it. The
"e" will have the text but lots of strange symbols. Even so, once burned to
CD, nothing will open.

I know if I open each one, and save it to my documents as text it works -
87% of 2000 - 2500 MB - No time to do that.

Where does Outlook come into picture?

Sorry folks. No wonder I am in trouble. I have Outlook on computer - had
fewer problems when I used it. Thanks again.

Thank you. That takes me to Plan B. I hire a high school student to sit
there and do it the hard way.

No cheapy - I pay for MSN, RCN, Opt Online, and a new Time Warner. I just
want my MSN to work. My problem is I probably have so many because I don't
really know how to make any of them work right - Hotmail was rather problem
free. When using Outlook about 3 yrs. ago - started getting about 1,000 XXX
rated e-mails every few days and couldn't block them.

It sounds like you need to stop using a free Hotmail and start paying for
one so that you can access it thru Outlook and save your files more easily.

Getting that amount of x-rated emails tells me your address has been sold
over and over again. Once you've given your email address out to a company
you don't know, you're screwed. (Sorry about the terminology but it fits.)

Yours isn't an Office issue. You need to learn how *not* to give your email
address out or have one set up for junk only. Like this one that I use for
the public newsgroups.

If you are getting that amount change the Hotmail filter settings to only
allow people in your address book....

Thank you for this response.

Is there a way to move email folders from Outlook Express to an external
drive -- without having to move each individual message one at a time? Many
thanks.

Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]

Try posting this in an Outlook Express news group - this is not one of them.
Outlook is a part of Microsoft Office and is what this group supports.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and has its own news groups.

Find the {foldername}.dbx in Windows and move it.
Look at the Backup section here for some information:
