How do I save my files to diskettes

S

Sheshe

I need to back up my files in my Word program because I have a virus. Can't
find instructions on "how to". Have a "geek" coming to fix--I hope.
Please help.
The virus has disabled my printer.

Hello Sheshe,

Generally, you don't back up application software. These days, most software applications create
entries in the registry during installation. You'd have to know exactly which registry keys to
back up, along with any shared .DLL files, in order to have any hope of restoring an application.
You should reload it, if necessary, from your installation disks.

Best to let your geek friend take care of backing up your data as well as removing the virus.
Your files will likely need to be scanned by up-to-date antivirus software before transferring to
your back-up media (or before restoring from the media back to your hard drive). Otherwise, you
could just end up backing up the virus as well. Here is an article worth reading (and
forwarding):

The State of the Computing Industry
http://windowssecrets.com/040923/

It includes five steps in the section titled "You CAN and MUST protect yourself", which every PC
user should be aware of.

Finally, this newsgroup is dedicated to Q&A for Microsoft Access, the database program. It is not
the correct newsgroup to post general questions to.

Good Luck,

Tom
