Saving to a floppy is one of the surest ways to corrupt your document. Word
has to use a number of temporary files when it saves documents; if disk
space is tight, they can more than consume the available space. And if you
happen to remove the disk before Word is finished file swapping, the result
will be corruption. Still, saving to a floppy is not as dangerous as opening
a file from a floppy and working on it.

Corrupts not only the document, but often the medium itself. Trawl the forum
for any number of posts from people who have lost an entire CDR this way.
