How do I set the master slide to set slideshow?

I wonder if you can make a master slide and insert into it the fade in and
fade out animation, plus timing, then save it and apply it to all slides, as
opposed to setting specific animation for each and every one? When I try to
set the Master, I can't because it is a blank slide; there's nothing there.
When I select a pic to be a lead-in, I lose the option to 'apply to all
slides.' Do I have to resize every pic too, to fit the screen? Most of my
pics are larger than screen size, and when the slideshow runs, the pics are
huge and have scroll bars, instead of being thumbnailed to fit. I am running
P P 2003...

McKenzie1967,
You can apply animation schemes in PPT 2003, in the animation schemes task
pane, choose one from the different categories and hit apply to all.
Or do it all in the master. View - Master - Slide master. Select the
placeholders and apply the effects you want, be it entrance, emphasize or
exit effects.
You say the master is empty, that seems odd. You are sure you are in master
view? If there is nothing there, click on the master layout button on the
master taskbar and check all placeholders.
If you put an image on the master and animate it (with previous), it will be
shown on all slides automatically.
