Vicki

I am trying to set up a master template so the template can not be changed
but each cell can still have information typed in it.

make the file Read Only (right click on it, properties, check read only)
is that what you mean?

I had a similar problem like this and came up with a solution that is
working well for me.

I have two tabs, one where the input is done and one where the template
is that is linked to the input sheet. I lock the template sheet and
allow the user to edit the "input" sheet. This way they can't change
format and spacing, but they can alter the input values.

Actually my users just have to cut and paste a row of about 78 data
points and it data is linked to the tab and then we save that info off
and make a PDF file. If anyone has any idea on how to do this better
or easier, I would be forever greatful. :)

Thanks,

PZan

Hello Vicki

First of all create the template, then select the cells that you wan
users to be able to type in. Once you've selected these right mous
click, a menu will appear then select Format Cells, select Protection
then remove the tick from the Locked box. Then select the Tools menu
then Protection option & then Protect Sheet option enter a password
This will now only allow users to enter info. into the cells yo
previously selected & leave the template part untouchably unless yo
unprotect the sheet.

Hope this help

if you save your file as a template (xlt) it wll open as a copy of itself so
the original file is always untouched ie book1 opens as book11 template would
open as template1,and they open as excel workbooks (xls)
