Paul,Thanks for your time & help.I'm sorry for not giving enough info about
my account.I failed to mention that I have an existing long time free hotmail
account that at the time of the change I was notified by Microsoft that I
would still be able to continue using my hotmail acct. thru Microsoft Office
Outlook but no longer able to open any other new acct.My problem I was having
here was that when I reformatted my Pc I was not sure how to configure it
into my settings of microsoft Office Outlook.Somehow but not sure how I did
it,I have it working again.I still would like to know the corect procedre for
how I configured this,If anyone has an answer please reply to this post, thank
you all.

It can't be done. Even though you've had those accounts for some time, you
needed to have set things up prior to Sept 2004. Once you reformatted your
system, you severed the ability to be able to access your free Hotmail
account with Outlook/Outlook Express.

I read two of my Hotmail accounts that way but I suspect that this ability
is short-lived.

Your account needs to be "old" to get this facility. I was fortunate to
have all my 7 accounts setup prior to MS decided to start charging its
customers.

Alternatively, you could sign up with AIM/AOL and get access to the
account using Outlook/Outlook Express. You need to hurry up otherwise
they too will start charging if demands exceeds beyond their expectancy!

That information no longer works. The account HAS to have been set up prior
to September 2004. There's no way around it.

What do you mean "The account HAS to have been set up prior to September
2004". Only lastweek I set up my hotmail accounts on a new laptop.
they are all free accounts. Did I say somewhere "Your account needs to
be "old" to get this facility." are you saying US rules are different
from the UK? All my hotmail accounts are [email protected]. i don't
like using dot co dot uk address because of extra typing involved.

You can access free Hotmail accounts with OE? And you just did the set up
last week? (Just clarifying but that's not what Microsoft says can be done.)

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011000051033.aspx
Under Notes, it says "Free MSN Hotmail accounts cannot be used with Outlook.
"

To make sure, I just set my system up to access another Hotmail account that
I monitor and I got the following error message: "Access to Hotmail via
Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a subscription. Please sign up at
http://join.msn.com/general/Email"

I'm sticking with what I found on Microsoft's site and what I just
experienced last night. It could be that a UK Hotmail address is different
but it ain't happenin' here.

Well I can send you a test message from OE from which you can see it can
be done. I also provided a link which tells you how to do it.

I also emphasize that NEW HOTMAIL ACCOUNTS cannot be done. Therefore,
people have to go to AOL/AIM for free accounts if they want to use OE or
Outlook. The link is here:

I'm not saying that *you* can't do it. I am saying:

1. Microsoft says it cannot be done.
2. Last night, I tried setting up a six-year old Hotmail account to be
accessed with Outlook Express and it fed back an error message stating that
it cannot be done.
3. Microsoft says it cannot be done. (Yes, I'm repeating that because both
Hotmail and Outlook are their products and they should know.)

This is from Microsoft's KB:

You receive an error message when you use Outlook Express to access your
Hotmail account
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=878462
This states: "MSN Hotmail no longer supports Distributed Authoring and
Versioning (DAV) for free user accounts. Outlook Express uses the DAV
interface to connect to Hotmail. Only paid Hotmail accounts will work
correctly with Outlook Express. If you configured Outlook Express or Outlook
to access your Hotmail account before DAV support was ended, you may still
be able to use Outlook Express to open a free Hotmail account. However,
eventually Hotmail will no longer support DAV for all free Hotmail accounts.
