How do I set up newsgroup using Outlook?

When I was taking an online class at the University of Phoenix, we used
Outlook in a newsgroup. How would I set this up?

From Outlook's Help (F1) files after entering NEWS READER...

The first time you use the newsreader, you must add the News command
to the Go menu.

Add the News command to the Go menu.

* On the Standard toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options
that you use to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, press ALT
and then SHIFT+F10.), click the Toolbar Options arrow .

* Point to Add or Remove Buttons, and then click Customize.

* Click the Commands tab.

* In the Categories list, click Go.

* In the Commands list, click News, and drag it, without releasing the
mouse, until it rests over the Go menu. When the menu displays a list
of commands, point to where you want the command to appear, and then
release the mouse.

* Click the Go menu, and then click News.

Outlook or Outlook Express? Although, Outlook Express is Outlook's
newsreader. The instructions Dian provided utilizes OE but your posts
are sent through your email account setup in Outlook.

This link will setup the msnews.microsoft.com news server and add this
group:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.office.misc

Then to subscribe to other newsgroups go to Tools/Newsgroups.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

Note also that Outlook itself doesn't handle newsgroups. Outlook turns
control over to Outlook Express (the similar names notwithstanding, the two
programs are not related to each other). Using Outlook for newsgroups is
like using a Corvette for exercise. First, drive the Corvette to the gym...
get out of the Corvette... walk into the gym... excercise... etc.

YMMV, of course.

OR another third party software - Outlook will use your default defined news
reader, not necessarily Outlook Express.

Right, Herb...but when going through OL, the reader actually is
"Outlook Newsreader" and doesn't say OE, so, although I started to add
all that extra info, I decided not to confuse the issue here and just
provided the asked info. Although note that I pointed out my
article...which DOES explain the OE issues. ;-)

Hi Beth,
Not necessarily are the posts sent through the account set up in Outlook nor
do they have to be accounts set up in Outlook Express or any other email
client that you may have installed, for instance web based email
address/clients will work, gmail for instance.

Rob Giordano \(Crash\)

it'll go through your default email client.
i use OE only to read ngs so if i reply directly to someone it uses OL as
the email client.
i don't even have OE setup for email- but on my old machine I did and still
used OL for email.

Looks like your getting confused with Post and Email, the OP suggested that
a POST would use the default Email account and I pedantatically replied
otherwise, if you Post i.e. "Reply to Group" then it doesn't use an email
account set up in an email client, obviously if you just Email i.e. "Reply"
then it will use or try to use an email account. As I said a bit of hair
splitting
