How do I set WORD 2003 as default for documents

I'm using OFFICE 2003 and WINDOWS XP. Documents open in WORDPAD instead of
WORD 2003. This happens when opening documents in EXPLORER and OUTLOOK
attachments. How do I make WORD 2003 the default? I set it as the default
in OUTLOOK but no change.
