How do I show Asian letters in the Subject field?

I email to japan very often (in Japanese). I have no problem typing japanese
in the message field but I cannot do so in the subject field. Also receiving
a Japanese message with subject typed in japanese, I can read the message
field with no problem but the subject field becomes questions marks (?????).
can someone help me solve this problem?
