how do i sort a proceted work sheet

is their a way to sort a work sheet or book then do a data sort without
unprotecting the sheet or book

In office Xp I get a choice when I go to tools protection whether I want
users to allow to sort a file by simply checking the box
Do not remember having seen the same feature on a previous version of excel
