I have an image with a fairly dark (black) background.
To identify the image, i used a textbox witha white (a).
But when I print, the (a) turns black.

How can I prevent this?

Go to View: Color/Grayscale and select "Grayscale." You will then see
on the screen exactly how your document will print on a grayscale
printer. Select the problem elements (like your text box), right click
and go to "Grayscale Settiing." There you will have a number of options
that will change how the element will print (includiing printing black
text as white). Select whatever works best for you.
