How do I stop dynamic connectors from becoming diagonal lines

When I connect 2 shapes in Visio using a Dynamic connector and I want it to
make an L shaped corner it doesn't. I remember using visio when the
connectors would work around shaped with square corners instead of making
Diagonal ( \ )lines through my drawing.

Try going to File => Page Setup => Layout and Routing

I did that but the answer in Layout and routing is not intuitive. My
connectors are a mess of right angles caused by me dragging and dropping the
green dots on the connector line. I just want one right angle and not all
these angles. I have done it in the far past but never knew how the
connectors worked. Thanks in advance of your help. I am going crazy here.
