How do I stop layers linking together.

Not sure how I did this but when I try to delete unused layer box other
layers also delete! Also can't move the unwanted layer out of the way as the
other layers also move & these I want to keep.

Probably because they are nested inside the one you delete.

Show me your code, or your page, please.

Sounds like you have nested the layers you want to keep inside the
layer you wish to delete.
Delete the layer in code view.
