How do I stop my header and footers disappearing in preview?

Can't find an answer on the Microsoft website that answers my query. Have
inserted .jpegs into header and footer (for every page) and yet when I click
away, they disappear and won't even show in print preview or when printed
out. Print margins are well within printer limits, so can't understand
what's wrong!

By hunting through Microsoft support, I have been able to insert the images
as 'paste special' on the edit button. Although I have been successful with
the header, I still can't see the image pasted in the footer. I believe I
have left sufficient room for the printer margins - does anyone have any
other ideas?

I have the same problem but it is with merging data. The header disappears
but when you print it out everything is there.
