How do I stop Office 2003 from freezing when e-mails are opened?

When I attempt to open e-mails using Office 2003 the program freezes or says
"Not Responding". When I reboot, I get a message stating that a personal
folder was not closed properly. Quite frustrating especially when its
happening every day. I have re-installed the program but my problem still
exist...
