I can't get the letters at the beginnig of each set of answers to stop such
as A,B,C,D,E and so on

Do you mean you are using autonumbering? Turn it off from the Home tab or
the Format menu - or apply an un-numbered style to the next line.You can
turn off automatic list numbering from the autoformat as you type options,
but then you will be more or less forced to use a numbered style for
creating a numbered list.
