Version: v.X Operating System: Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) Processor: Power PC I prepare reports that include full URLs. Every time I try to select them, type near them, they auto-link to the web page. How do I turn this off?

In an existing document: Use the keystroke Command+6 or Shift+Command+F9 in
order to break the link on a 1-by-1 basis... The insertion point need only
be in the URL, you don't have to select the whole thing. If there are no
other fields to be concerned about you can Command+A (Select All) then use
one of those strokes to break all links at once.

For documents or entries you create yourself: Go to Word> Options>
AutoCorrect, AutoFormat As You Type page, clear the check for "Internet and
network paths with hyperlinks".

Hi Bob,
I've been working on documents that I create and the "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" hasn't been checked. But your other suggestion works - many thanks!

Glad it helped, but the AutoFormat... setting 'should' prevent URLs,
directory paths & email addresses from being converted to hyperlinks. If
that isn't the case for you there may be a problem brewing which might do
well to correct before it gets worse.

First, confirm that Office is fully updated. The most current update level
for your version of Office is 10.1.9 which is *critical* even though you're
using an earlier version of OS X. Repair Disk Permissions after applying any
updates followed by a restart of your Mac.

It's also possible that you have either a damaged preferences file or that
some other software is preventing your Word prefs from retaining your
settings. Might be a good idea to test the prefs as described here:

Thanks, Bob!
I'll follow up on this. Our whole office has been having trouble with Word - but we haven't updated the software in quite a while. I'm going to circulate your note.
All the best,
Donna
