How do I turn off the markup option for good?

I have just recently updated to Office 2003. Each time I open a document
that has been changed in any way the changes show up. I have to hit the
markup botton under view to make trackchanges go away. Is there a way to
keep this off unless I tell it to track changes?

This is a security measure to prevent embarrassment or worse, but you can
disable it if you really want to on the Security tab of Tools | Options.
