How do I type Cl 2 ( Chlorine) or H 2 O ( water) in a cell ?

Type the text.

Use your mouse and select the characters you want to subscript.
Right click>Format Cells>Subscript>OK
Then hit Enter

a bit easier:

Yes it is possible to have superscript and subscript in excel.

Step1: After typing the H20, just select only 2 and right click
step2: format cells
step3: In effects you will find superscript and subscript options
