I can't get a blank document. A previously typed letter keeps coming up. I've
tried deleting it in order to do another. There are no messages rcvd.

Chances are you accidentally saved the prior letter as the template
"Normal.dot" Find the file Normal.dot and delete it. Office will replace
it with a new one.

You also can delete the text and save that over the original Normal.dot.

Name.dot is a template file. Normal.dot is a special template file that
include a lot of your default settings. Name.doc are your regular Word
files.

This is a newsgroup dedicated to questions about Access, the database
program in Office Professional. It appears your question may not be related
to these subjects. The Microsoft help system is not all that clear and may
have misdirected you here.

It is best to ask your questions in a newsgroup dedicated to the
subject of your question. You should find people better able to address
your problem there.

Note: It is always best to indicate the name and version of any
program(s) you may be using when asking a question and also indicate the
operating system (like Windows XP or 98) when you ask a question.

Thank you Mr. Meehan for responding to my rather vague question. My son is usually the one that handles the computer problems. His mom wasn't thinking. I will try your solution. My OS is W98SE
