How do I unlock a work document in Word 2007

I am trying to modify a document that I have been working on, it is saying
"modification of document is restricted your document is locked. Please help

Is it just that document or any document? Either you have toggled on
Document Protect, your installation of Word needs activations and has 'timed
out' or you have a trial version that has expired.
