how do I use 3d draw in word

I am using Word 2003 and 3D buttons are not activated. How do activate so I

You have to draw and have selected some AutoShape object. Not all of them can be
made 3D, and there doesn't seem to be any simple rule -- for example, the
"smiley face" won't activate the 3D controls, but the "slash through circle"
will.
