How do I use the annotations feature in document imaging?

Today I downloaded some new updated Office features recommended by my MS
Auto-update icon. I have never used the Document Imaging feature before.
After I scanned a document, I clicked on the pen. I tried to drag and use the
features but nothing happens. I honestly don't know what I doing wrong. (I
was trying to sign a letter I just scanned) Also, when I transfer to Word the
document gets all scrambled.

I also have the same problem but transfer to word works fine. Just pen and
highlighter appear to 'do' nothing! please help.
