how do i use three column borders

I am trying to place borders around each column of a 3 column layout. The
borders are there but they are open at the bottom or top of each column. How
do I get the borders to box each column?

You can select contents of each column individually and then do:

Format, Borders and shading

Select the type of border required.

Click OK

This should give you the borders around each columns.
