How do i view a pps file with pictures?

How do i view a pps file with pictures?
It was sent to me in a email as a pps file, when I open it in powerpoint I
can view the text but not the pictures they are in small boxs with a X in the
middle.
I should also tell you that I am in the USA and the flie comes from the UK
any help well be welcome.

Or by chance could the creator have linked the images instead of inserting them?
