how do I view .ods files

Open Office can read .xls files but is there a way that Excel can reciprocate
and read .ods files.

No, not at the moment AFAIK - there was talk of an OpenDocument plug-in at
the time of the Massachusetts thing but I don't think it's been done yet, if
it ever will.

OO can write xl files, however, if you want to get around the problem. :)
