How do I write a formula that will cummulate my figures for a peri

I have a database which is increasing on a daily basis. I would like to have
a formula which will give me the cummulative result of a product when I enter
the period or a specific date. e.g 01/01/2010 to 30/04/2010. Can anyone help
me find a solution
