How do I write (c)?

My "(c)"s is being converted into the copyright symbol. How do I keep it as
"(c)"?

Autocorrect is "helping" you. Go to Tools->Autocorrect and remove (c) from
the list.

I developed and now support a database in which we use several autocorrected
terms. Everytime a new one crops up I get a laugh. Then I have to go and fix
it!
