How do you achieve a 360 photo?

Does anyone know how to achieve a 360 degree photograph like the one
featured on the site below?

The one on that page is displayed using a Java applet called PTViewer. I
did a search on google and found this site:

there is a nice app from www.ulead.com called cool 360 that's got a free
trial. it also outputs to an avi so besides panning you can zoom in and
out.
