how do you add bar codes to postcards

I send a lot of direct mail postcards. I just purchased a bulk mail permit
and certain mailings I do require a bar code to be printed on the postcard.
Can anyone tell me how to add a bar code to postcards. Thanks.

Steven,

Ed Bennet has a site about what is needed to use bar codes. I can tell
you that in the US, in order to get any financial discount for including
bar codes, you will need to supply documentation. Depending on your
mailing permit type (non-profit, for example) you will also need to sort
your mailings. Postage$aver offers a demo program that you can use. If
you buy it, it is not expensive unless you only do one or two mails a
year. I also believe you may need to use 4-inch labels rather than
3-inch one, though this may be for only periodicals.

Stop at the facility where you got your bulk mail permit and ask for the
publication: Domestic Mail Manual 200 series.

There is more to it if you want discounted rates. It's more than sorting.
The addresses must be verified correct against the Postal Services database.
The programs are expensive.

I suggest that you contact a mailing service company, provide them with your
distribution list on an Excel spreadsheet. They will verify the addresses,
print the documentation that the Business Mail Entry Unit requires. Unless
you are mailing weekly, to many thousands of addresses. Your costs will
exceed that of first class mail.

Chuck,

Not true. I mail about 600 pieces (flats, not letters) per week. My cost
is about $80 per week (postage). Depending on the type of mail, one
validation might be good for as long as a year. (Mine is good for 90 days.)

Dear Steven,

I am exactly where you were last July. I wondered if you received the bar
code font needed for Publisher and if you would be interested in sharing it
with me.

Thank yo in advance.
