How do you delete or hide things like paragraphs and text boxes.

Forgot to mention that I am using the version of word that was released with
Windows XP.

For text, just highlight it and use Format --> Font --> Font tab, Hidden
checkbox.
For drawn objects, change their line color to the background color.
