Select the "Page X of Y" entry from the AutoText menu on the Header and
Footer toolbar.

Jimmy! Hi! FINALLY one of these questions that I can
answer!

Click on VIEW at the top of your WORD screen. Click on
HEADER and FOOTER. A mini-taskbar appears. Click on the
big button to the left: INSERT AUTO TEXT. You'll find a
bunch of options there, but the bottom one says: Page X
of Y. Click on that, and you've got it. Then you can
center the "Page x of y" or change fonts, sizes, or
whatever.

One caution: Sometimes on my system, if I put the "Page x
of y" in the header--and then later add a page or delete
a page--the "Page x of y" does not automatically make the
adjustment to Y--the number of pages in the document.
(Sometimes it does!) So after you've added the "Page x of
y," and when you are absolutely finished working on your
document, go back and check Y to be sure it's still
accurate. Otherwise you may get a header that
says: "Page 7 of 3."

Good luck!

Ellie
