How do you get the Outlook 2003 message envelope to appear in the tray for
ALL received messages? Not just the ones that REMAIN in the Inbox. The
messages that are rerouted to folders do not put and icon in the tray. The
only work arround that I have found is to set up a rules that put a NEW
DISKTOP message on my screen, when messages are received. But that does not
remain for over 30 seconds. Hence, if I am away from my desk, I have to
check ALL folders for messages, when I get back

Notification only works for the Inbox. You can change your rules to "copy to
folders" instead of "move" if you can stand the clutter. Or move the emails
yourself after reading.

I beg to differ, because I have rules to move all my incoming messages,
whether to a different folder or delete them, and I always get the envelope
as soon as the first message arrives. However, I can only suggest unchecking
the option and, probably after a restart of OL or even Win, check it again.

This suggestion did not help -- I still do not get the new messages icon if I
have rules set up to move the message to a different folder. Simply copying
it will not work for me because I get about 2 emails per minute and I would
never be able to keep up with making sure they got copied and deleting them
from the inbox..

Is there really no way to get the new mail icon to simply appear in the tray
whenever a new message comes in? It seems unbelievable that this would not
be possible. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Carl

Earlier versions of Outlook would put the envelope icon in the notification
area of the system tray whenever a message came into the Inbox, even if a
rule subsequently moved it to another folder. It is my understanding that,
in response to user requests, Microsoft addressed that issue in Outlook 2003
so that the icon is not displayed if a rule moves a message to another
folder.

However, you can add an alert to the rule actions so that you get notified
by the rule.
