How do you mask a url for a protected page?

Sandy

I have created a website that has a password feature.
How do I mask/hide the url to the protected page? I've bought software from
another company to do this for me but it doesn't work.

Does anyone know what code I need to put on which page to make this happen?
I don't want people to be able to go directly to the protected pages without
logging in.

The way I create a password protected page on a website is to create a
separate html file, not associated with the website and then have a link (an
icon) to it. The address to the password protected page doesn't appear
anywhere. I've used a clipart snowman, star, a picture; anything will work.

The files (Pub 2000) on the server consist of

index.html
page2.html
etc

several .gif, png files

Then, a folder with the protected html file. The folder gets the logon,
password protection.

As I understand your question and goal you need to create a password
protected folder/directory on your host and upload the web pages you want
protected to that folder. As Don suggested create the pages you want to
protect with a separate Publisher publication than your main web page
publication. To figure out how to create a password protected folder on your
host, go to the support section on that host or even the FAQs and directions
on how to create this common feature should be available to you. Each host
has there own way of doing this. Don describes one. As per masking your url,
you won't need to do that if the protected pages are in the password
protected folder as no one will be able to access them without the password.
