How do you set up handwriting recognition in Office 2007/Win XP?

With Office 2003 running under Win XP-SP2, I was able to use handwriting
recognition. With Office Pro 2007 under Window XP-SP2 that feature
diappeared. The help docs in OneNote say its available for a Tablet PC or a
handwriting device like my Wacom Intuos tablet, but OneNote treats the
handwriting as a graphic only and won't convert it to text as it did with
Office 2003. Word 2007 doesn't acknowledge handwriting input at all. Has
Office 2007 eliminated the handwriting recognition feature or is it tied to a
Vista upgrade?

There was a new driver released for the Wacom tablet a few days ago: try
that.

Hope this helps

John, I have a related question. I am getting ready to buy a Toshiba Portege
tablet with XP loaded. Will I need to buy a special version of Office (2003
or 2007) to work on this tablet?

I'm sorry, Suzanne, for following up on this ... I know that both Office 2003
and 2007 will run on Windows XP. I was asking specifically about tablet PC's
- will the regular Office Suite run on a tablet with handwriting capability,
or do I need something special?

It is the Windows Operating System that is different for the Tablet PC. A
special version of Office is not required.

Hi John,

As far as I can tell, that driver only enables handwriting recognition in
Office 2007 when running under Vista, not under Windows XP.

Ah, sorry. Missed the significant word "tablet" there. As Doug says, there
should be no problem. Some users have reported some "ink" issues with Word
2007, I think, but I haven't really been paying attention.

Also, I just read a post saying that handwriting recognition in Word 2007
works only under Vista.
