how do you switch from opening a file automatically to prompting to save as
first?
Thanks,

Can you reword your question? I don't see what the two have to do with each
other. How are you opening a file automatically in the first place? And if
you aren't opening it, how do you propose to "switch to" save as? Sorry,
your question makes no sense to me.

Well, what I used to be able to do, when I would receive an e-mail with an
attachment, is double-click the attachment and I would be prompted to either
open, or save file. Unfortunately, due to excess clicking, I apparently
clicked the box to not prompt again. What I want to be able to do again is
have the option to save. Maybe that's a better way to ask? Thanks,

Definitely; especially since this is eht Excel group, and your question is
really Windows related. Go to My Computer, and hit Tools-->Folder options,
File Types tab. Choose the file extension you're working with (I'm assuming
XLS). Hit Advanced, then tick the box that says "Confirm open after
download."
