How do you trim a word like Nancy to 'N'

I'm trying to take the first name in a column and get a result of the first
letter only in a new column.

If you have the name in A1 in B1 enter

=Left(A1,1)
If this was helpful please say yes

if you want the first letter, try this in B2
=LEFT(A2,1)
