how does one place quotes in margins of a book on every page?

Hello there,

I am writing a book and I would like to put quotes in small print in
the 1.5 inch margins on both even and odd pages.

How can I accomplish this?

Double column doesn't quite work.

How do I define a margin on the left or right that I can add quotes
to?
