How doing I create a .sep printer separator page?

J

I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit. In the printer preferences dialog there
is the ability to assign a separator page (.sep file-type). I can find no
info anywhere (here, the MS KB nor HP website). Can anyone provide
guidance/direction on how to create a .sep separator page?

Thanks,
Jon

That would only apply if the printer is on a network, rather than attached
directly to your computer.

Please tell us the version of the application you are asking about,
your OS, Service Pack level
and the FULL contents of any error message(s)
Thanks for replying ... the printer is indeed on a network and not directly
attached to any PC/laptop.

If you do Start-Printers, right-click on the printer and select properties,
somewhere there you should find the option to create a separator page....at
least that's where mine is....

My properties only provide the ability to ASSIGN a separator page (with a
..sep extension) ... there is no option to CREATE one. :/

Is your printer a proper network printer, with an NIC in it, or is it a
shared printer on another machine?

Not really anything to do with the Office application suite. Please do a
search on your system for *.sep files (On Windows XP they reside in
C:\WINDOWS\System32) and then open the examples in Notepad to see the
contents. The contents will reveal how, and you may see they are printer
language dependant.

IIRC you can also add printer-specific data that should be sent to the printer
ahead of a print job. We used to use a bit of HP JCL in a SEP file to switch
a printer between Postscript and PCL modes.
