How i can change the color of the cell based on the text

I want ot change the color of the cell based on the text by using conditional
formatting. If in the list i mentioned X Y & XZ. If in the cell it contains X
the background color should be red. If y it should be yellow. If Z red and so
on

Please look up Conditional Formatting in Excel Help, there are detailed
instructions there.

In EXCEL 2003:
Format, Contitional Format and also use Patterns. For example:

Condition 1: Cell Value is: Equal to: ="X" [now click on the format
tab and patterns tab]

Condition 2: in similar fashion as above.

If you don't have Contidion 3 then click on ADD tab.

The maximum conditions allowed is 3
