How many installs with Student and Teachers Edition

I need a little guidance on which version I need. I am a home user and
indeed have a child who is a student. I want to upgrade to Office 2003
as I am currently using Office 2000. I have 3 computers in the house
(two desktops and a laptop). Do I understand that the Student and
Teachers version allows only two installs?
Also I had heard that activation for that edition was a bear. Is that
correct and if so what is involved?
If I want it on 3 or 4 machines at home can I buy 2 copies of the
Student and Teachers Edition.
Please somebody clear this up for me.

Right from the back of the CD case for Office 2003 S & T version "Install
full versions of the latest Office products on up to three of your home
PCs."

Previous versions of S & T had different limits.
