How many resources to screw in a lightbulb?

Background: I'm a definate geek, but have only been working with Project
2003 for a few days, to try to convince my boss that using Excel spreadsheets
to track half of a shipyards' schedule is a bad idea.

Problem: I need a column that will tell me how many resources from a
resouorce group are assigned to a specific task. Example:

Task: Screw in lightbulb
Resources: 2 guys form Shop 11, 1 guy from Shop 21, 5 guys from shop 31.

The shop numbers are the resource groups (11, 21, 31).
The names of the resources are number like this:
11-1, 11-2, 21-1, 31-1, 31-2, etc.

I'd need a field that would show me this
11(2) 21(1) 31(5), or something similar.

Can it be done? Is it possible? Find out next week oooonnnn....

nukeemusn,
Boy, that's a whole lotta guys to shed light on the subject. Let me
guess, the 2 guys from shop 11 are the supervisors, the 1 guy from shop
21 is the worker bee, and the 5 guys from shop 31 are management, human
resources, OSHA, EPA rep, and security. The first two direct the worker
(one is supervisor and one is a union steward) and the last 5 make sure
its all done according to company policy, equal opportunity
requirements, OSHA safety standards, EPA requirements and approved by
homeland security. Yeah, that should probably cover it.

Now, what was it you wanted again? Oh yeah, you wanted a resource group
allocation field. If the Resource Sheet lists 11, 21, 31, etc. in the
Name field and each resource group has a Max Unit level of how ever many
individual resources are in that group, then the output you want will be
shown in the Resource Names field in the Gantt Chart view. Oh, one other
thing, you probably want your resource assignment level shown as a
decimal instead of in percent. To do that, go to Tools/Options/Schedule
tab and set the "show assignment units as a:" to "decimal".

For example, let's say the Resource Sheet looks something like this:
Resource Name Type Initials Group Max Units
11 Work 1,2 5
21 Work 1 5
31 Work 1,2 5

Then assigning 2 units of resource 11, 1 unit of resource 21, and 5
units of resource 31 to the lightbulb debacle task will show the
following in the Resource Names field:
11[2],21,31[5]

Pretty darn close to what you want.
