In Word 2003 SP2, I try to view and scroll through documents containing text
as well as multiple autoshapes composed into figures. When I reach any of
these figures, rendering is very slow (>20 seconds on a P4 3GHz 1GB RAM
machine) and I cannot interrupt it with any option like continuing to scroll
or changing the View from Print layout to web layout. Approximately half of
the time, the full figure is not even rendered when control is returned to
me. Yet, for those cases, simply changing the View from Print layout to web
layout and back very rapidly renders the full figures. I expect such rapid
rendering normally. Coworkers viewing the same documents on their machines
do not experience such slowness.
